Trinity Student wins HSBC and British Council Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition
We’re delighted that Second Year student Arun won the HSBC and British Council Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition, the only speaking competition for Mandarin across the whole of the UK.
Arun gained a place in the hotly contested final along with 14 other schools, including St. Paul’s Girls School, Dulwich College and Westminster School, following the Regional heat in December.
The final was held at the British Museum on 7 February. Arun’s performance was exceptional, with eloquent speech and precise pronunciation.
Arun said "When I found out I had won, I couldn't believe it! It was very pleasing to see weeks of practising pay off. I had to prepare a speech for the competition about Chinese Food, which I very much enjoy eating. When at the competition it was great to see so many other people of my age speaking Chinese. The trip to China is a great prize! My thanks go to Ms Lin, Mrs Wang and Miss Wang for helping me prepare for the competition."
Ms Lin, Head of Chinese, said: “This is a fantastic achievement after weeks of hard work and continuous preparation with the Chinese department – well done, Arun!”
